10 Tips on How To Get From Where You Are, To Where You Want To Be

April 21, 2018

We all set goals, it's something that's drilled into us, from early school days right through to our everyday work routine.

Goal setting has probably been the basis of my success, happiness and pretty much getting through life day to day. Goals don't have to be huge - they can be as small as getting up an hour earlier or trying out a new recipe.

When you know exactly what you want and set goals to get there, you're guaranteed success if you put your mind to it.

So here's my 10 tips on how to get where you want to be:

1) DO WHAT YOU WANT (within reason)

If there's one phrase I live by, this is it. If something makes you unhappy, remove yourself from the situation and go do something that does makes you happy. After all, we're put on this earth to enjoy it and make a change so make the most of it.

2) KNOW YOUR WORTH

Never settle for something mediocre, wether it be a job, friendship or new haircut.

3) IF YOU DON'T ASK YOU DON'T GET

If you want something, chances are you'll need to ask someone along the way for help, advice or more opportunities. Don't keep quiet, not everyone can mind read and nine times out of ten after you've done it, you'll feel a whole lot better getting it off your chest and probably have a solution or fix to your questions.

4) BE NICE

Make friends and business connections with the right people. Be there for friends, colleagues and family when they need you and they'll be more than happy to return the favour.

5) ALWAYS MAKE A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION

You only have a few minutes to make a good first impression and it's almost impossible to change it if you mess it up, so it's worth giving each new encounter your best shot.

6) BE YOURSELF

....Unless you can be a unicorn, then always be a unicorn.

7) DON'T BE A 'YES MAN'

Learn to say no. I've put myself in situations where I've took on too much work, agreed to too many nights out (and skint myself) or ended up doing things I never really wanted to in the first place... saying no doesn't always mean you're letting someone down, start to see it as an opportunity to do something that makes you happy and you'll begin to enjoy the free time you have a lot more of.

8) TREAT YASELF!

I feel like there's nothing that de-stresses me more than a good chill night with company that I love, candles on, getting cosy and eating hunners of good munchies. That and going a wee shopping spree... Nothing sets you up for success more than a good mood.

9) WORK TO LIVE, DONT LIVE TO WORK

Sure, you can "Do a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life" but don't make your job your life. Have time outside of work, doing exciting things with the people you care about most. Spend your time wisely - in the end, you're working to make money to be able to do these things.

10) CELEBRATE LITTLE VICTORIES

There's so much power in small moments. Wether it be finding a new song to add to your playlist or putting something you've learned to practice, celebrate those little 'wins' of the day. It makes you happier, promise.
